In the center of the painting, the Virgin Mary is handing the scapular to Saint Simon Stock. Witnesses of the event are several saints and historical figures associated with the Carmelite tradition, such as Saint Peter Thomas, Saint Louis of France, Saint Angela, Queen Blanche of Castile, and Pope John XXII. In the lower band, the damned are writhing in flames, except for those wearing the scapular, who are being rescued by an angel.
