ST PAUL THE APOSTLE

Author: Gian Maria Morlaiter

Century: ante X°

Church: Church of Santa Maria del Rosario (Gesuati)

DATE: 1745 ca.

POSITION: third statue on the right (on map n° 10)

METHOD: sculpture

MATERIAL: hard stone

The statue, like all the others of this series, is located in a niche, placed on a typical conoidal rococo platform, with two “modiglione” spirals (an ornamental pattern that is usually found in Corinthian capitals).

St Paul the Apostle was realised by Morlaiter in 1743. The sculptor makes a strong and poweful impression with the postioning of the sculpture. The statue firmly grips the sword and book in the right hand while he raises his left hand inviting the faithful, directing his gaze and his prayers towards the sky.
