AUTHOR: Jacopo and Domenico Tintoretto

CENTURY: 16th century

CHURCH: Church of San Giuseppe di Castello

DATE: Around 1581

PLACEMENT: First altar on the right (on map number 1)

TECHNIQUE: Oil on canvas

Michele, depicted as an armored warrior, holds a lance with which he will defeat Lucifer, and a scale for weighing souls. The archangel hovers in the air, supported by a cloud and majestic wings colored in white, red, and gold. He stands above Lucifer, who possesses horns and long black claws. On the right, Senator Bon witnesses the battle between good and evil, fought for his soul. The tranquility on his face demonstrates his trust in resurrection, as he dedicated his life to the public good.

The restoration in 1973 attributed the execution of the angel to Jacopo and the portrayal of the senator to his son Domenico.
