Giovanni Agostino da Lodi was paid in Venice on December 14, 1504 for a painting commissioned by Giovanni Paolo Averoldi from Brescia. The subject can be identified both in Saint John the Baptist and Saint Jerome as in the Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine.

The painting’s author, from Lombardy, was among the vanguard acedemic between the lagoon of pictorial cues of the of Boatmen Altarpiece (ca. 1495), today Leonardo da Vinci’s work is conserved in the San Pietro Martyr of Murano Church.
