During the Spring of 1558, Veronese started the decoaration of the church: the work proceeded very quickly and the setup of the frescos was complete in September of the same year.

On the higher part of the walls a continuous embellishment runs along the portico and winds around the spiral columns, interrupted only for the presbytery arch.

Going towards the opposite side of the façade, near the monks barco, the colonnade houses the Stories of Saint Sebastian.

Corresponding with Saint Sebastian before Diocletian, on the opposite wall, is the Saints martyrdom scene, in which the emperor, wearing his royal oriental wardrobe, assigns orders to the persecutors to beat the saint while he still lying on the ground.

The relation between the two scenes is a chronological narration of the saint’s life.
