The grandiose funeral monument was built by the doge Marino Grimani for himself and for his wife and dogaressa Morosina Morosini at the time of his investiture or shortly after. The grandeur of the mausoleum, built with various precious marbles and decorated with sculptures in the round and reliefs, is accentuated by the small size of the church. The classical scaffolding is enlivened by the overabundance of decorative elements, marking the transition from the late sixteenth-century architecture to the Venetian seventeenth-century baroque.
