CRUCIFIXION OF SAINT ANDREW

Author: Giovanni Andrea Pellegrini

Century: XVIII°

Church: Church of San Stae

DATE: 1722-23

POSITION: presbytery – bottom right wall (on map n°19)

METHOD: oil painting

The canvases depicting the Twelve Apostles, that adorn the  presbytery’s side walls, were realised thanks to a request left in the noble Andrea Stazio’s will.

There were different artists involved for the completion of these paintings, therefore, the series turns out to be a compilation of Venetian paintings from the beginning eighteenth-century.

The works were placed in plaster frames embellished with flowers and small angels, extending onto the walls to create a seamless decorative effect.
