CEILING DECORATION: ASSUMPTION OF VIRGIN MARY

Author: Giambattista Tiepolo

Century: XVIII°

Church: Church of Santa Maria del Rosario (Gesuati)

DATE: 1737-1739

POSITION: ceiling ;

METHOD: monochromatic fresco

The ceiling displays of an illustrated rosario near the six windows and, interpreted in a rococo style, it narrates the three biographical episodes of Saint Domenico themed with the papal and cardinal privileges for the confraternities. The representation of the Fifteenth misteries is developed in circled frames placed in the smaller rib vaults and the quadrilobates in the larger ones, each decorated with plaster knots.

It seems that Tiepolo was assisted by collaborators Francesco Zugno (1709-1787) and Giovanni Raggi (1712-1792?) for the execution of the “grisaille”.
